I would disagree about it being corruption. More of an adaptation or evolution.
Just a few scenes back we saw a ‘pure’ and ‘uncorrupted’ nihallak just sit there in a kill chamber and let itself be torched merely because it received no order to move.
Whereas 487 just heard their supposed emperor plotting the death of pretty much EVERY member of their species other than himself. Instead of just standing there and waiting to die 487 shows some initiative and decides to NOPE out.
The difference in active intelligence and survival drive is substantial.
Yes, but in the context of Nihilaks, That Is Corruption. Science squid make a point of that. They’re not supposed to have emotions, or body language, letalone motivation beyond following orders. And yet, all of those things have crept in, to the point none of them noticed until it was pointed out. I’ll bet the queen is similarly corrupted but toward being a squid.
I think the Queen is actually more resistant to changes. Didn’t the science squid even say something about that? On the other hand, after five millennia, maybe?
She still has the collar on…
In all fairness, if he snapped it off, that would be quite suspicious and probably would raise alarms.
Also, I don’t think he changed opinion THAT much. He’s not saving HER, he’s saving his CHILDREN.
