Any easily identifiable minority population of sufficient size will end up being discriminated against by the majority once enough majority members have had bad encounters, or heard of bad encounters, with minority members. The dark fairies were almost certainly being discriminated against before the war, or felt they were being discriminated against, whether the elemental fairies recognized it or not.
Given how easily fairies can be differentiated and how big influence their element has on them, there is going to be HUGE stereotyping. In fact, we KNOW there is – there was that purple fairy complaining that not all of them are sexual maniacs. And stereotypes about dark fairies are easy target for discrimination …
Discrimination if i recall was not as much before the incident, but fear spread quickly. Not to mentions stars not handling it too well by banishing every dark fairy eventuslly (from their point of view darl fairies would be safer further away until thongs cool off)
SINGULARITIES? Ominae can manipulate black holes? Ok, she’s not exaggerating. She’s dangerous opponent for any battleship, not just Nihallaks and their little ship.
In fact, I wonder how could she cause an incident involving black holes AND leave the planet habitable.
(Of course, singularities are the LEAST dangerous kind of topological defects. There are also cosmic strings and domain walls.)
We dont’t know what it was but it cause all faories to be afraid of dark fairies
This is ironic as ot is her star fairy saide that lets her achieve this. So in a way you can say stars shifted the blame from themselves to the darl element to save their image. ominae being born was already a star breaking the “deal” they have with rest of fairy kind (the whole thing with magic cave)
Okay, so when you control Birth Rates, it’s always going to raise ethical questions.
But, seeing as were talking about the birth rate of an essentially immortal race…I don’t even know where to begin.
But let’s start off with the practical. You get more dark fairies. Great. What do they contribute? That is a legitimate question.
Let’s say you get No dark fairies. Your essentially genocideing an entire race. Unless they’re specifically controlling the population at just the amount mentioned. (one fairy dies off, they offer the chance for a replacement)
But then that just raises even More question’s. Like, how many fairies are considered too many? If each fairy does contribute to something, what happens if they choose to stop? Do you offer a replacement? Force them to contribute? Do they become a burden and are exiled? What about the breakaway fairies and criminals?
There are a Myriad of complicated questions that come to handling an immortal race. Especially when you bring resources into the mix. I’m amazed this whole ritual is Only being discussed/handled by a few leader’s. It’s a Huge sweeping discussion that would require Lifetimes of discussion on how to handle it.
…this is a good comic series btw. It really gets the blood flowing above and below.
You’d think, after 5000 years (or even 3000, if you’re just taking Ominae’s lifespan into account), the Stars would have figured out such things.
I’ve noticed that, even though they are ‘Good’ people, and (reasonably) good leaders, the Star’s are definitely control freaks. It does seem that they have some good reasons for being so, but by the same token, if they weren’t such control freaks in the first place, and let the other Fairy types have an equal voice in how their world is run, they might not have nearly as many issues as they do.
You’re definitely right about the comic. The sexy-times are always well drawn, the banter is awesome, and the story/plot are far and away better than 95% of the other pr0n comics out there.
Stars are not that special – the can and do make mistakes. And because they lived the longest they made the most mistakes. Having the responsibility of their whole race on their shoulders given to them by their creators is also very taxing
Not to mention after the fairy war they did develop some minor … psychological problems (not sure correct english term). Galaxy control freak, Star always smiles when near others, Solaris fills the void with many pets… Nebula and Nova being the most stable
And yeah, that is a great description. Wish I’d thought of it first. :]
AFA the comic, there aren’t many adult oriented webcomics I’m aware that are able to combine a great story with genuinely fun and likeable characters and, of course, smoking hot sex. Plenty do one or the other, but rarely all three.
Fairies vs Tentacles definitely hits that sweet spot.
Plus, they are not actually running the world. Much of it is uninhabitable, so they are running a single island with their entire species depending on their management.
(We haven’t been specifically told yet, but I am pretty sure at this point that the ecosphere is habitable, or else the island would need to be a closed biosphere structure. The rest of the world is uninhabitable because it is contaminated with many many tons of depowered but not deprogrammed Nihillium, which will start creating monsters as soon as fairies get near it. So both the Stars and the Chaos are right about the habitability of the rest of the world…)
Yeah it is livable but due to fairies sitting on their asses for so long they gave enough time for the surviving flora and fauna to mutate into the horde of monsters that are around the planet
They are running the world. There is no other government questioning their sovereignty (there are chaos fairies, but they are ON the island and not really government). Also, they have at least partial control over orbital weapon platform capable of striking anywhere on planet.
The fact most of the world has too many monsters to be safe doesn’t change that. Similarly, a pack of wolves, no matter how big and bloodthirsty, will not change the borders between European countries it lives near to. It may endanger the settlements, but it will NOT change borders, because they are just animals and can’t sign treaties.
Basically, all their problems are caused by that. Forget Nihallaks, those would be just minor annoyance if the fairies wouldn’t be limited by the magic cave.

dang, even the fairies have found some of their own to be bigoted at : {

Actually its pink fairies that are sexual maniacs (stereotyping) and they mistook it as all fairies being sexual maniacs
Ok, pink, but she still complained. Page 183.

MINOR?
Well they not fully crazy 😀
Thank you both for the kind words.
“It really gets the blood flowing above and below.” Is now my favorite descriptor for my comic lol.
Credit where it’s due, always. 🙂

They are running the world the same way they always did … but the population got hundred times bigger so it’s working less and less.

Yes the magic cave and problems with fairy reproduction probably my most liked bit from the setting, as it makes things so interesting
Basically, all their problems are caused by that. Forget Nihallaks, those would be just minor annoyance if the fairies wouldn’t be limited by the magic cave.
Yrah that is true. Currently stars could probably blow them uo by themsleves. Bit they need their tech
