Was thinking the same thing! There are also a lot of bystanders and residences around, so he might be holding back to avoid collateral damage.
Collateral is one thing, as we saw how much damage him and macey can do when fighting. Other aspect is also how unexpected and everchanging the battle situation was. He’s basically fighting a weird, mutating nihallak, and nihallaks never fought each others before. In fact most nihallaks only have experience fighting draigjibies and their machines. Fighting monsters or fairies are overall a new experience. That being said, he was at no point in mortal danger, unlike against Macey. He’s just having difficulties killing the enemy.
IMHO he may split the monster in two – but is not sure if both halves wouldn’t recover.
Not fully powered? When the leech surveilled the crowd, it was attracted to Zak because he stood out like a light bulb (page 561). Plus, I’m pretty sure he’s been snacking on Myri whenever they’re bored.
