I don’t know if I’d consider either of these characters as baseline for their species. Both of them are incredibly ancient: if they were from Earth, Nova would have been around when the concept of writing was new, and Ominae would have been watching early experiments in iron forging as a child. I wouldn’t take their behavior as super representative for the whole population.
It’d be interesting to know if there’s even a genetic issue to contend with for fairies. Do they have recessive genes to even worry about? Without a genetic issue, the reason for the incest taboo becomes rather moot.
If i recall fairies don’t wajt rail their relatives due to some leftover instincts from their draigjiby ancestors. But i dont recall those details too kuch right now
@MalachiteDrake I also believe the incest taboo is largely due to “genetic danger”; however, there is the concern about having children out of the family order for us humans, and any species like us that may exist. There may be dangers about it we currently can’t clearly see, much like when humans first consumed tobacco; and ultimately, there is the concerns of a Supreme Being. I know many don’t believe in that, but you must admit, if such were true, what That Being thinks is infinitely more important than what we think…unless we’re “promoted” by That Being.
So, if I read the lore correctly, Fairy nihilium keeps genetics in line for the most part, The Cave can fix any misses. Fairies can mostly control impregnation regardless of sex, so yes, if their are no other concerns, I see no issue with incest for fairies, even as it is a very big issue for humans for reasons that make sense. –JR
They are ancient, but their whole society is stable compared to Earth. Partially due to limited population, partially because Stars deliberately slow technological progress.

Let me guess … Fairies don’t have a taboo about incest.

Incest seems normal for fairies, just check out page 137.
It not that common but it also not that big of issue
Though some fairies are very against it like Holy’s fire parent was

Agreed, nice to meet another open minded person MalachiteDrake!
Sokaras, why? Is there a genetic issue? Where did the objection come from?

Fascinating, I wonder what other unnecessary instincts remain.
I would guess even if Fairies did have some problematic genes the “Magic Cave” would block or fix them.

I guess the real question is, who’s gonna top?
They can take turns.
