Tarah has hit the nail on the head: the shadowsprawler is in the center of the dark forest. I doubt the Stars or other fairy leaders are confident they can destroy that one with their current power.
Surely Stars have their reasons, but as mentioned under the strip, those reasons may be terrible.
I’m pessimist. I think they don’t know what it is and have no idea how to find out, so they don’t dare to do anything just in case. It’s their general strategy actually – they are kicking problems down the road as if there would be someone else who they could pass the responsibility to solve them later.
Realist would just note that we don’t know enough about the situation.
If it’s technology that they don’t understand(and the star fairy’s are the most technologically advanced), than my point still stands that outright destroying it could be worse than leaving it alone. For all we know, it would unleash something horrible on the island and end up destroying everything.
So yeah, the tactical approach is wait and see until your 100% certain it won’t backfire and kill everything. And if destroying it Is the right answer, they’d have literately no reason not too.
The amount of brownie point’s they’d get for ending a major long time threat would make any resistance front sound like a joke at that point.
Have we forgotten than Lucky has the ability to manipulate time. I am fairly certain that if she wanted to she could have played out thousands even millions of iterations to destroy the dark forest. The fact that it exists means the fairies alone cant do it. I am guessing that the Nihallaks are part of the current plan given she went to so much trouble to keep them alive.
Not true. The fact Lucky didn’t triggered destroying the dark forest doesn’t mean they can’t do it – it just means it’s not her priority. It’s also possible she’s using dark forest as a way to train fairies to be better prepared for another danger … for example, Nihallaks.

May still be worth the risk – isn’t the shadowsprawler getting stronger?
We don’t know what the thing is. We don’t know if they’ve tried to stop it. We don’t even know what They know.
What we Do know is that they have they’re reasons, and if they Didn’t do what Zak said, chances are they’re good ones.
My theory? They Could destroy it, but it would probably end up making things Worse somehow.
You are optimist.

@Nextgener: If it’s growing, it’s possible they are able to destroy it now BUT wouldn’t be able to do it in future.
They should at least ensure it’s not getting stronger faster than they are.
