The Monolith mystery deepens. Nobody has skin and lips like this except the Queen, a F-jiby, and as others have pointed out, Monolith’s speech font is similar to Queen’s. My money is on Monolith originally being an F-jiby or War-jiby.
If I’m gonna make an even more speculative bet (of course I am), I would say the “facility” that melted down with this poor F-jiby inside might have been an attempt at creating a new magic cave. How long ago did this failure occur though and why was Star collaborating with this F-jiby at all? Those are open questions.
My money’s on War-Jiby. F-Jiby’s were made by the Nihallak, to serve their needs. War-Jiby’s were made by the Dragijiby’s to serve theirs. Both are equally (and *insanely*) powerful. Given that Star is working with Monolith, and they clearly have a long standing relationship, I’m 99.9% sure she’s a War-Jiby.
Besides, from a meta perspective, we already have an FJiby, in the form of Queenie. And she’s gotten a *severe* powerup after ‘eating’ several Fairy souls. Having Monolith there, as a War-Jiby, to counter Queenie, just makes sense from a storytelling perspective.
F-Jibies were a ‘high energy generating version of the Draigjibies’ that the Kulthma made from Draigjiby DNA, and War-Jibies were ‘reverse engineered versions of the F-jibies’. So, presumably, they were also “high energy generating”, because, again lore says that they ‘did posses magical capabilities they were not taught how to use them’), but that they ‘fought by powering their combat suits” (which, I’m assuming, were the suits that the Stars were using to fight that ocean monster), rather than direct manipulation like Fairies.
AFAIK, there’s no specific callout on Queenie being either a War- or F-Jiby. I admit, I might have missed something, but it seems that, from context clues, and what’s actually been shown in the comic, she certainly seems to match the description of F-Jiby from the lore page. (Turns out I DID miss it. On page 552 (https://eldrikdgt.com/fvt/main/page-552/), 298 talks about saving a War Jiby (the Queen) during the Era Ender 5000 years ago.
Regardless, like I said, Queenie is SUPER powerful now, after having absorbed some Fairy souls (IIRC, it was at least three), AND with the battlesuit that she’s now wearing. So, presumably, C3 is, again, based on the few context clues we have, pretty damn powerful as well, though her ability to exercise that power might be limited to her specific location (though that’s pure speculation on my part, but it does make sense).
Anyway, again, this is just my two cents, based on re-reading the lore, and another read-through of the comic. I’m probably picking the nits a bit too much, but what can I say. I’m a geek, and overanalysing my favorite fantasy/sci-fi properties is what we do. 😀
Can confirm Queen is a war-jiby. I think it had been mentioned before but can’t recall specific place
She wasn’t strongest from the war-jibies, but if i recall she had more inteligence than averidge – which helped her survived and not simply battle to the death
Note that while it’s likely Stars suits started based on War-Jibi suits, they did a lot of upgrades in last 5000 years. They actually have more advanced technology than during the war, although just few pieces.
I dunno, revealing that the Star fairies beat the Chaos fairies cause the Monolith intervened and killed them in their forest hideouts seems pretty big. The “facility meltdown” thing seems like a hook since it is enough to tell us something big happened without giving details.
The “Monolith intervened” contains little more information than the “facility meltdown” hook, but still, look at what technology Stars have. Did they really NEEDED that? Why? What that “forest hideout” looked at that time, was it already full of monsters and yet it looked like good hiding place? Definitely raises more questions that it answers. Including the “Will we ever get the full story of Fairies war or was there not enough sex?”
(I mean, “not enough sex” is the reason why we didn’t get the full story of the Draigjibie and Kulthma war, right? But in that case, it seems we are at least getting enough lore drops to put it together.)
If I ever cover the fairy war in details, or the draigjiby-nihallak war, it will be in a separate comic because yeah, the tone will be vastly different, and a simple chapter warning wouldn’t be enough. These were real wars, gruesome, angry and sad. But I do plan to dig out a bit more of that lore in this comic, but it’ll be narrated more than shown, as I already did a bit in the past.
Honestly? The revelation that the light fairies all but rule fairy kind due to secret alliance with the source of all monsters? Really makes me hate them and their hypocrisy even more.
Technically, we don’t know if other star fairies knows about it or if it’s just Star. Also, we are not sure how much Star control the Star Council in general – I feel like the original idea was more balanced but Star usurped more power than her share.
So, let’s hate Star and her hypocrisy for start :-).
cool cool… and that changes the other star fairies very obvious bigotry and complete disregard for the other fairy types how? I mean hell the only decent star fairy is a hybrid… and they very clearly disapprove of her and cut the legs out from under her politically as much as possible. It’s very clear that they are in power by keeping the rest of fairy kind… i can’t think of a kinder word for this but stupid. They hog high tech and knowledge that could make the lives of other fairies alot easier, and i imagine it was that kind of behavior that made the chaos fairies rebel in the first place, which brings me back to my original comment of how they aligned themselves with the source of all monsters to put down a rebellion.
There is also Lucky. Who hides from them. But yes, Ominae is better than other stars in actually caring at least about “her” dark fairies.
The word is uneducated. They are not actually making them stupid, just limit technology, education and similar.
However, it’s possible that the other star fairies just didn’t realized where will following Stars orders (or possibly “proposals”) get them. I mean, it’s unlikely, they don’t look that stupid, but … Star is clever and may combine well-sounding arguments with psionic manipulation.

Skin, lips … and EARS (better visible on previous page). Fairies don’t have ears. Queen does.
Yup, looks like the Monolith used to be F-jiby or War-jiby.
True! Good eyes on those ears haha
Good spot on the ears!

Queen is War-Jiby. Although it seems she was created as F-Jiby then turned into War-Jiby.
Also, fairies, while physically less powerful, have stronger magic.
Per the lore page (https://eldrikdgt.com/fvt/long-distant-past/) it was Draigjibies that were ‘physically more powerful, but with weaker magic’ than fairies.
F-Jibies were a ‘high energy generating version of the Draigjibies’ that the Kulthma made from Draigjiby DNA, and War-Jibies were ‘reverse engineered versions of the F-jibies’. Based on the previous page’s warning, I can guess why Star finds visits with Monolith to be somewhat stressful.
It’s still possible those warnings would actually refer to some flashback from the facility meltdown or the war.
Like, sure, every Star visit to Monolith was stressful, but it’s her own fault she never stopped just for little talk.
Damn, some big lore drops in this one.
Those are not drops. Those are lures/hooks. Lore drop needs more details. But maybe we get those?

I would definitely read such comics. Unless it would be behind pay wall … I might read it anyway but it wouldn’t be definitely.

Minor note – star fairies. Light fairies are the ones with white or grey hair
my bad.
